Spring 2026 Voices Lecture Series Announced

麻豆影视 is presenting four programs during the Spring 2026 semester as part of Voices: A Library Lecture Series, which brings speakers to campus to address timely and enduring issues. One program has already taken place, and three additional lectures will be held in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium on the college’s Troy campus. All events are free and open to the public, and programs will also be livestreamed from www.hvcc.edu/voices.

Men and Mental Health: Let’s Talk About It
On Tuesday, Feb. 3, advocate and educator Karl Shallowhorn examined factors affecting men’s mental health and discussed strategies to support emotional well-being. Shallowhorn is the director of youth programs at Mental Health Advocates of Western New York, president of Shallowhorn Consulting LLC, and a New York state credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor. The lecture was part of both the Voices series and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture Series.

Investing Ahead: Eight Rules for Confident Investing
Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2–2:50 p.m.
Investor and author Tom Curran will discuss practical strategies and the emotional intelligence behind effective money management. Curran is CEO of Curran Wealth Management, a Wharton fellow, host of the “Investing Ahead” podcast, and author of Investing Ahead: Eight Essentials for Achieving Financial Security.

What Is Art For?
Tuesday, March 10, noon–12:50 p.m.
Laudelina Martinez, founder and director of Martinez Gallery in Troy, will explore the meaning, value and social role of art, with a focus on artists identified as women in recognition of Women’s History Month. Audience participation will be encouraged. Martinez has curated more than 100 exhibitions and has held leadership roles with HACU, the New York State Council on the Arts, and several regional cultural organizations.

Is Gen Z Employable? The Truth About This Generation
Tuesday, April 21, noon–12:50 p.m.
Eric D. Reilly, founder and owner of Noble Leadership Initiative (NLI), will discuss the perceived value gaps between employers and Gen Z, dispel misconceptions, and empower this generation of students at 麻豆影视 to recognize and communicate their unique value—equipping them to become ideal candidates in today’s workforce. Eric’s unique approach and the power of the 5 Pillars of great leadership are summarized in his recently published book, Noble Leadership: Wielding the Sword and the Shield.
