VOICES: New Insights Into the Greek Immigrant Journey
麻豆影视 welcomes to campus as part of its Voices: A Library Lecture Series.
A native New Yorker, Dean is a researcher of Greek and Polish history and a retired adjunct professor of economics at 麻豆影视.
Dean will discuss the discovery of the personal papers of Nicholas Calamaras, a Second Avenue candy shop owner who founded the Greek American League to support Greek immigrants in the early 20th century. From his small store, Nicholas built the League into a powerful voice for Greek Americans, influencing elections and advocating for the community for nearly two decades.
Drawing on the League's archives, this presentation offers new insights into one immigrant's remarkable impact on early Greek American history.
