VOICES: Forest Euphoria, The Abounding Queerness of Nature
麻豆影视 welcomes author and scientist to campus as she presents her book, "Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queerness of Nature," as part of its Voices: A Library Lecture Series.
Growing up in the Hudson Valley, Kaishian found solace and belonging in local swamps and culverts. Among snakes, snails and fungi, she recognized her own developing identity as a queer, neurodivergent person, sparking a passion that led her to a career in science.
Braiding personal narrative with scientific insight, Kaishian offers a fresh perspective on the natural world, revealing the vast diversity of life all around us. From fungal species with thousands of biological sexes to intersex slugs and the mysterious biology of glass eels, her work highlights the unusual, overlooked and marginalized aspects of nature—and the profound lessons they hold for us all.
This free event is co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging and Student Activities.
